The first trip and community service program that the Exchange Club participated in was the Walk to Fight Hunger to benefit the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley at the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday, October 12th.  Eleven students from the club walked approximately 5 miles in total.  At the end of the walk, students received a certificate of completion and community service hours.  In order to raise funds for the Food Bank, the Peekskill High School Exchange Club conducted a donations drive in main lobby of PHS on October 9th after school.  The money that they raised will be donated to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and will be used to stamp out hunger.  There will be two more opportunities to donate money donations to this cause.  Next Monday and Tuesday, October 21 & 22, the Exchange Club will be collecting donations from staff, and the community.  Their goal is to raise at minimum $100.  They do ask for your help!

The Exchange Club is very active this year.  The club is also hosting this years PHS Club Fair on November 7th from 2:20 – 3:30pm in the cafeteria.  At this event, all clubs and sports teams at PHS will be showcasing their clubs and teams to the student body to try and get other students involved.  Clubs and sports teams will be making displays, posters, and handouts to showcase what each club does throughout the year and try and get new members.

In addition, the Exchange Club is also planning a trip to NYC to see Odyssey’s Shipwreck! Pirates and Treasure exhibit at Discovery Museum in Times Square.  The Shipwreck! Pirates and Treasure exhibit features over 500 authentic artifacts, including millions of dollars worth of gold and silver treasures, as well as the amazing science and technology used to work thousands of feet below the ocean’s surface.  The exhibit also includes a hurricane wind tunnel in which students can feel how a storm winds would feel on the open sea.

One other activity that the Exchange Club will be conducting is their International Dinner in November.  At this event students and families will be sampling a variety of international dishes from Countries around the world that the club explores and studies during their meeting times.

If you are interested in being a member of the Exchange Club, feel free to stop by one of their meetings every other week on Wednesdays or see their advisor, Ms. Day!
