On Friday November 4th, a fund raiser for a community service program known as Peekskill Boat Works (which is affiliated with the
Peekskill Youth Bureau) was held at the Peekskill Yacht Club. The reason for the event was to raffle off a one of a kind, hand made, kayak. The program’s instructor (and Retired PHS Assistant Principal), Mr James Taylor, and his two boat building assistants who are also Peekskil lHigh School students and go by the names of Frank Perricelli and Justin Hayes
had worked at building the kayak for a number of months. The raffle tickets for the
boat were $25 each. Other items were also raffled off and the price of
those tickets were $10 for 10 tickets and $20 for 25 tickets. In addition to the raffle, the people who attended the event enjoyed other festivities such as music and food. There was a Spanish Guitar player who was very talented. The crowd of supporters was made up of mostly local Peekskill people who talked to their friends andit seemed to have a good time. The kayak was won by mayoral candidate, Mr. Anthony Washington.
As far as the fundraising part goes, the program made about $800 from this event and these funds will go to new
supplies for future boat projects that the program will be doing.
