Peekskill High School Marching Band Plays at Memorial Day Ceremony
PEEKSKILL…Joining together with Peekskill’s police, fire, and emergency services departments, as well as veterans and members of the American Legion and Purple Heart recipients, members of the Peekskill High School Marching Band took part in a moving morning of remembrance for those who have died in service to the United States. The band, led by music teacher John Hahn, with the assistance of music teacher David Thomas, performed several patriotic numbers including a mournful “Taps,” the “Star Spangled Banner, and “It’s a Grand Old Flag.” Local dignitaries present included Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, County Legislator John G. Testa, and Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster, The veterans present at the ceremony expressed their appreciation at having young people connecting to the history represented by the nation’s veterans. “It’s good that we’re here,” reflected senior Stephanie Gil, who played the flute. “This is an important thing to do.”
