On January,10,2014 Lanay Rodney scored 1,000 points of her stellar career. Rodney has been playing basketball since she was 6 or 7 she first started playing for Peekskill parks and recreation and only joined because her sister and friends were playing. When Lanay got to the eighth grade she played for the Peekskill High School Varsity girl’s basketball team. I asked her “How did it feel being on varsity for the first time?” she replied “Scary, because all of my friends were on junior varsity.” For the past two years the Peekskill High School girls varsity basketball team has made it to sections and won the gold ball. The second year of being on the team her one “Most Valuable Player of the year.” So far LRD has a 15-3 and is playing sectionals this week. Lanay says she can see her team winning states this year. Her passion for the game and motivation from friends and family allowed her to make it this far. Rodney wants continue playing basketball in college. She wants to go to college and become an elementary math teacher. Lanay and her teammates have a strong bond on and off the court they play as a team and never give up which is the reason why they are strong as a team.
