Dear Mercury,
Some of the friends I hang out with drink when they go to parties. I like going to parties, but I don’t want to drink. What can I do?
To answer this question, Mercury sought the advice of Ms. D’Anna, our Project Success Counselor. Ms. D’Anna is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Room 237A.
How to refuse drugs/alcohol:
* Just say NO
* Give a reason/fact/excuse, “My moms on her way to pick me up,” “I have other plans,” “I was
already grounded last week, I’m not getting in trouble again.”
* Walk away
* Change the subject or offer an alternative activity, “Maybe we can just go get something to eat
instead.”
* Avoid the situation
Remember…you don’t have to do anything extra for someone to like you…just be yourself!
