PHS Holds Annual Science Research Symposium

PHS+Holds+Annual+Science+Research+Symposium
Peekskill High School held their annual Science Research Symposium on Thursday, June 1.
Peekskill’s Science Research course is a three-year college level course, provided in collaboration with the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany. During their enrollment in the course, PSR students conduct scientific research on the topic of their choice with a career scientist. Students gain valuable research skills that include retrieving and reading peer reviewed articles from science databases, writing literature reviews, and designing experiments. At the end of their sophomore year, students procure a mentor, who is an expert in their chosen field of study, and work closely with them to conduct their experiment and collect data. Beginning their junior year, students analyze their data, and prepare posters to present their research and defend it in national and state wide competitions. At the end of each year, PSR students participate in an annual symposium, where they share their research experience with their parents, teachers and classmates. Senior PSR students present their culminating work via PowerPoint presentations, which are followed by a poster session by all students.
The Symposium is organized by PSR Program Coordinator Mrs. Erum Hadi, MPH, MSEd.
