Early on Saturday morning, October 16th, members of the Enviromental Club met at the Peekskill Train Station to catch a train to Poughkeepsie. On the ride, points of interest such as West Point Milatary Academy, Bannerman Island, Breakneck Mountain, and Mount Beacon were viewed and discussed. After departing the train, the group hiked up to the Walkway. It was a little windy, cold and even somewhat scary, but everyone made it across. We saw the Catskills Walkway State Park and a golden hawk flew one foot above our heads. As we ate lunch another red-tailed hawk landed near us waiting for his time to eat as well. After lunch we looked over the hiking tail maps and started to head back. We missed our scheduled train, so we ended up taking a tour of Riverstreet and the Whale’s trail. We went to a coffee shop and enjoyed hot cocoa and lattes. On our ride back we started to make plans to return to the Walkway in the Spring and add a cookout as well as a hike to the falls.
