Poetry Corner: The Open Cage

Poetry Corner: The Open Cage

We’re locked in a cage with the key in our hands, this is a test of strength
Alone in the box, yet the world moves on, we cannot see it but this is fate
We try to sleep every night but the nightmares are there watching to keep you awake
I do not blame all the ones who left their own cage, yet I still feel betrayed

We’ll try to move past, but in the end, all of us know it won’t be the same
Our habits will change, our bonds are estranged, as humans we tend to shift the blame
We’re a people divided by selfish and selfless, humans are driven by gain
No matter the reason, no matter the gamble, people will leave the cage.
