On Saturday, September 17, 2016 in the Campus Center Ballroom of the University at Albany students from Peekskill High School and other schools all over were honored for the Multicultural High School Achievers Award Program. This award, also known as the High School Achievers of Color Award, honored the accomplishments of high school achievers from the greater Capital District and beyond. This program provides the University at Albany with the opportunity to recognize seniors from different communities who have distinguished high school academic records and who are involved in numerous school and community activities. Students who were nominated by Ms.Gordineer to receive this award included Naieka McTurner, Jamila Desir, Elizabeth Fernandez, Prince Marsh, Brittney Pauta, Jose Pimentel, Nia Robinson, Wendy Salazar and Josh Satur. All students who were nominated and received their awards and medals gave a short speech and thanked their parents, counselors and whoever helped them to amount to their success throughout their high school years.  Students nominated for the award in the future are at an advantage due to the fact that their applications will be reviewed before students who may have not been recognized by the college. As we move forward to college and later, careers our accomplishments and achievements will bring us great success. After the award ceremony students took a tour of the college campus. We visited classrooms, cafeteria, laundry room, library, gift shop and the in the dorms of students living on campus. Walking around the campus was truly extraordinary as there was a diversity of students. We saw sorority groups dancing, students studying, jogging the campus and even eating their lunches in the cafeteria. I personally had the opportunity to speak with the lower-class and my tour guide who was a senior graduating class of 2017. The feedback from all college students was that they really enjoy school here and would recommend for us to visit again on open house on October 15th. The University of Albany is a beautiful campus and I will look forward to visiting again and possibly attending next year.
