Last Wednesday night, the Peekskill High School Chapter of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta ( Math Honor Society) held their annual ceremony to induct new members. Advisers, Ms. Spooner and Mr. Brown hosted the event for the honorees and their friends and families.
The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation’s premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.
Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society with over 88,000 student members in more than 1,800 schools.They are dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject , and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students.
