It was a great night in the Peekskill High School gym as our Red Devils faced their arch rivals, Ossining. Both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams were victorious. The Junior Varsity team appeared to have an easier time, defeating the Ossining JV by a score of 87-56. The drama and the volume of the crowd were definitely turned up, however, for the varsity game. Last week, the North County News rated Ossining as the area's #1 team with the Devils being rated #2. After last night's 79-73 win, that should change.
The first quarter started a bit shaky for the Devils. The team showed great hustle, but the Ossining shooters still took the advantage. In the second quarter, the Devils' momentum overtook Ossining as Kenny Bradshaw tied the game at 29-29. Also during the 2nd qtr., a timeout was called in between Daquan Brickhouse's shooting of two foul shots. The timeout wasn't called to give Daquan a rest. It was called to give him a commemorative ball for reaching the 1,000 point mark. Mr. Cain and Coach P presented Daquan with the ball, and the cheerleaders and the crowd presented him with a booming ovation. Although Ossining got close (a little too close at the end of the 4th qtr.), the Red Devils were able to hold on to their lead and finish on top.
Coach P. as quoted in The Journal News.
“He's (Daquan Brickhouse) a four-year starter and I've only had three of those in Mookie Jones, Rashard Turner and Elton Brand,” said head coach Lou Panzanaro. “He spent his first two years distributing the ball and over the past two years we've needed him to score,” Panzanaro said. ” It's great to see a kid who works so hard
be able to achieve this goal.”
