Peekskill High School Dress Code
Some of the aspects of the Peekskill High School Dress Code are utterly stupid. I know for a fact that staff members and students alike agree with me.
I’ll admit, some parts of the dress code make sense and shouldn’t be changed. For example, the no spaghetti straps rule is a good rule. No one wants to see boobies popping out all the time. The ripped jeans rule is stupid. I feel that it should be okay as long as you can’t see the skin underneath. Isn’t that the whole point of the rule, anyway?! Towards the beginning of the school year, I wore a pair of ripped jeans. It was really hot outside. I wore a pair of leggings underneath thinking it was going t be accepted.? ? I was wrong. They made me wear tape over the rips and it was my first infraction of the school code of conduct. I noticed that while they were explaining to me what was expected and what wasn’t, they were looking at me as if I was a bad student. It made me think, ‘does it make me a trouble maker if I dress a certain way??
And by the way, what the heck is dangerous footwear?!?!?! How on earth can a pair of shoes be dangerous?? Another stupid rule is the no flip flops/Adidas slippers rule. ?? When it gets to summer and spring, your feet get hot. And in order to avoid stinky, sweaty, disgusting feet, and create a happier environment, we should be allowed to wear them.
I sat down with our school principal, Mrs. Lazarus last Wednesday and some of the board members of our school. I represented the student opinion on the dress code and code of conduct. Mrs. Lazarus gave me the impression that agrees with my opinions and ideas. She also thinks that some of the dress code rules are silly. That is why I want to change some of the rules on these codes to make our school a more fun environment and give us more freedom. I hope the rest of the student body feels the same as me so we can come together as a whole and see what we want. This is our school isn’t it? And if we don’t speak out, who will?
