Recently the PACE program went on a field trip to Sharpe Reservation. Located in Fishkill, New York, Sharpe Reservation has different obstacle courses including; a high ropes course, a low ropes course, group activities, and numerous nature trails. The purpose of this trip was to have a team building experience with both the teachers and students. A student named Tiriq Wagner stated “I particularly like the islands course. As a team we had to get from one platform (island) to another, using small boards that weren’t long enough. It was a fun experience that required team work and planned strategies.” The students and teachers had to work together in order to complete the activities and accomplish goals. On the high ropes course, students were put out of their comfort zone. Students had to climb up a 30 foot tree and walk across a wire to a connecting tree. Zaire Perry said “it was a terrifying experience and I just wanted to be back on the ground. Although, when I finished the course I felt accomplished and proud that I faced my fear of heights.” This trip helped with bringing students closer together. A teacher in the PACE program, Mr. Agnello, stated “Our trip to Sharpe Reservation helped students create bonds with one another through team building exercises. These activities pushed students to have positive communication while working together, building a deeper sense of community. Students were also given specific strategies to further enhance their leadership skills.” Overall, the trip to Sharpe Reservation was an exciting experience that helped bring the PACE program and its students closer together.
