The Environmental Club had a unique presentation on May 22 by the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater educator.She presentred a power point on a fantastic opportunity for all students at PHS ages 15-18.
If selected a student will be a part of a unique
experience this summer onboard the Clearwater,a replica of a 19th century Hudson River sailboat.The Clearwater acts as a floating environmental classroom and looks to inspire lifelong love and appreciation of the environment.
There are two sessions,Young Women at the Helm Aug. 8,9,10 and Young Men at the Helm Aug. 22,23,24.In both trips students will meet young people from all over the Hudson Valley (Bronx,Hastings,Ossining,Peekskill,Beacon,Poughkeepsie,Albany,Millerton,etc.).As a group they will develop new talents and abilities in an amazing ,unconventional,unforgettable experience.
There will be daily activities in sail raising,fishing with
a trawl net, testing and examing water quality,steering and navigating the ship,learning sailors’ arts,games and relaxing on the river.There will be several guest speakers talking about careers , opportunities , and leadership issues.The boat will dock each evening and students will set up tents for the night.All meals are provided and there is a chef traveling with them at all times.
