Do you know the effects of music on dogs? Light on plants? Coca Cola on teeth? Orange juice on plants? These research questions and many more were addressed at  PHS’s 7th Annual Science Symposium which was held in the gym on  the evening of May 24th. The event was well attended by students, parents, and staff. In addition to the research presentations, a group of students were inducted into the Science Honor Society. The students who presented have been enrolled in either the Science Seminar or Science Research programs. The courses  required extra  work, but the students involved seemed to have enjoyed the whole experience.

Here’s what some of them had to say when asked about the program:

” I liked that I could go deeper into the subject and do experiments that I liked”  – Kayla Kerschus

” It teaches you beyond simple Chemistry” – Jimmy Ruano and Braulio Guallpa

” You get to use  dangerous stuff” - Brett Travis

” I got to work with my friends. We work on ‘hands on science’ and got to go to Mercy College”- Evelyn Romero

” I want to be a scientist, so I need to develop my research skills”- Sylvia Archampong

” It gives you a good opportunity to communicate with other scientists”- Margaret Krapish

” You can branch off and make up your own curriculum”- Symone Griffith
