A remake of the movie ‘Mildred Pierce’ is using Bank & Brown Streets as a movie set this week. This HBO mini series found Peekskill had old street scenes that, with modified storefronts, recreate 1930s southern California. Specifically they’ll film in front of Westchester Community College, WMG Engineering, the former Westchester National Bank (now the Worker’s Comp building), and the Paramount theater.
The original 1945 movie, Mildred Pierce, starred Joan Crawford. This new version stars Kate Winslet, Evan Rachel Wood and Guy Pearce. The crew is building some spaces behind the storefronts into a speakeasy and also a grocery store. The outside palm trees complete the southern California look. But their time in Peekskill is limited. Afterall, only in movies will palm trees grow in Peekskill.
